Junior Research Seminars

If you are a junior in Weinberg College , you should consider enrolling in a Junior Research Seminar. These seminars are designed especially for juniors. They foster team research and collaborative scholarship, which might then lead to more independent research during the senior year. The topics for Junior Research Seminars are chosen to draw students from a variety of relevant academic backgrounds and to allow for many research approaches, differing both in substance and in methodology. Eligible students can talk with their departments or programs about using the seminar experience as the starting point for an honors project in the senior year.

Junior Research Seminars have maximum enrollment of 12 to 16 students. This allows for collegiality among students, as well as individual attention from the instructor(s) as students plan and execute sustained research projects over ten weeks.

Junior Research Seminars are typically offered during the spring quarter. You can sign up for these seminars during your regular registration time. All Junior Research Seminars are identified with a -JR suffix in their course number.

Information for faculty: Each fall, the Dean of the College solicits proposals for Junior Research Seminars to be offered in the following academic year. The Dean's message includes information on preparing a proposal and on how Junior Research Seminars fit with faculty members' usual teaching loads.
