Many courses taught in Weinberg College include substantial content from more than one distribution requirement area. Some of these have been identified as Interdisciplinary Studies courses. These courses have been approved for fulfilling requirements in more than one distribution area.
Interdisciplinary Studies courses are included each quarter in the Registrar's published lists for each distribution area in which they may be counted, and they are marked with asterisks in these lists.
Important Rules for Interdisciplinary Studies Courses
1. If you take an approved Interdisciplinary Studies course, you can count it toward one and only one distribution requirement area. You can choose to count it toward any one of the areas for which it has been approved.
2. If you count an Interdisciplinary Studies course toward a distribution area, then your second course in that selected area cannot be another Interdisciplinary Studies course. For example, the course Classics 210-Early Western Civilization can count toward Historical Studies, toward Ethics and Values, or toward Literature and Fine Arts. If you take this course and choose to count it as one of your two distribution courses in Historical Studies, then your second Historical Studies course must be one that counts only toward this area.
