Most Weinberg College majors are open to all interested students. However, certain majors require that students apply and be admitted to the program. These majors are: American Studies, European Studies, Integrated Sciences (ISP), Legal Studies, Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences (MMSS), and the English Major in Writing
The American Studies Program is highly selective. Freshmen and sophomores may apply for admission to the major in the spring. For more information, see the American Studies website.
The European Studies Program admits students by application only. Freshmen and sophomores may apply to the major in Spring Quarter. For more information, see the European Studies website.
ISP generally admits students only before they arrive at Northwestern. Interested students applying to Northwestern complete a special application for ISP too. For more information, see the Integrated Sciences website.
Legal Studies admits a select number of students with a demonstrated interest in legal issues. Applicants must have already taken at least two "law related" courses, as defined by the program. For more information, see the Legal Studies website.
MMSS admits students before matriculation at Northwestern, but also accepts a few highly qualified sophomores who have demonstrated special skills in mathematics during their freshman year. For more information, see the MMSS website.
Students may apply for admission to the Writing major through the English office (University Hall, Room 215, 491-7294) in the early spring of each year. For more information, see the English Major in Writing website.
