Weinberg College students are welcome to enroll in many of the undergraduate courses offered by other schools at Northwestern. However, you may count a maximum of eleven units from other undergraduate schools of the University toward your graduation requirements. At most two of these may be taken concurrently.
Of the eleven units, at most three full units can be in applied music. (Applied music courses are ones in which the primary activity is making music, whether on an instrument or with one's voice; more information is available from the Weinberg Office of Undergraduate Studies and Advising.)
If you think you can demonstrate a compelling and extraordinary need to take more than eleven courses outside the College, you should contact the Assistant Dean for Academic and Advanced Standing.
Liberal arts courses offered in Northwestern's School of Continuing Studies (SCS) do not count toward the maximum of eleven non-Weinberg College courses; all other SCS courses count toward this maximum. To take a course in SCS, you must fill out and submit an Authorization for Dual Registration form from the Registrar’s Office. Your College Adviser or the Assistant Dean for Academic Standing must sign the form; you then return it to the Registrar’s Office. SCS students receive priority for these courses, so you should not count on getting into courses you want.
