Major Requirements

THE MAJOR IN ART HISTORY
Students majoring in art history must take at least two 200-level courses in the department and nine 300-level courses. The 300-level courses must include at least one each from: 1) Ancient-Medieval; 2) Renaissance-Baroque; 3) Modern; and 4) non-Euro-American areas. The remaining five 300-level courses are distributed at the student's discretion in consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, but must include the Undergraduate Methods Seminar (391)* and at least one Undergraduate Seminar (390 or 395). Majors must also take one course in Art Theory and Practice and at least four additional courses from one or more of the following departments or programs with the approval of the Undergraduate Adviser: African-American Studies, Anthropology, Art Theory & Practice, Asian American Studies, Asian and Middle East Studies, Classics, Comparative Literary Studies, English, European Thought and Culture, French and Italian, Gender Studies, German, Hispanic Studies, History, Music History, Performance Studies, Philosophy, Radio/Television/Film, Religion, Slavic Languages and Literatures, Theater. * The Undergraduate Methods Seminar is a new major requirement as of the 2008-09 catalog. It is strongly encouraged for current majors, especially those who will be sophomores and juniors in Fall 2008, but is only required for students entering Northwestern in Fall 2008.

Minor Requirements

THE MINOR IN ART HISTORY
The minor in art history consists of eight courses, no more than two at the 200 level. Of the remaining courses, at least one must be in a non-Euro-American area. See the undergraduate catalog or the department for details on requirements for the minor.
