Students entering Northwestern September 2010 or later MUST follow the NEW requirements

Prerequisite Courses

Economics Prerequisite: (2 courses)

  • Economics 201: Introduction to Microeconomics
  • Economics 202: Introduction to Macroeconomics

Regulation Prerequisite: (1 course - choose from the following)

  • Economics 250: Business & Government (for non-Econ majors)
  • Economics 270: Intro to Environmental Economics (for non-Econ majors)
  • Economics 350: Monopoly, Competition & Public Policy (for Econ majors)
  • Political Science 341: International Political Economy
  • Political Science 348: Globalization
  • Political Science 375: Business & Government

Organizations Prerequisite: (1 course - choose from the following)

  • Sociology 302: Complex Organizations
  • Sociology 331: Markets, Hierarchies & Democracies
  • Sociology 335: Sociology of Rational Decision Making

Required Courses

Business Tools (1 course - choose from the following)

  • BIP 239: Marketing Management
  • BIP 260: Accounting & Business Finance

Field Courses (5 courses)

Under the new curricular requirements, no double-counting of the 5 BIP electives/field courses OR business tools courses is allowed. The business tools and field courses used for BIP may only be used for BIP requirements.

OLD REQUIREMENTS

Students entering Northwestern PRIOR to September 2010 can choose to follow the OLD requirements or the above NEW requirements

Core Course #1: (choose one)

  • Economics 201 and Economics 202 (These two courses count as one BIP core course)
  • Economics 310-1 - Intermediate Microeconomics

Core Course #2: (choose one)

  • Economics 250 - Business & Government (for non-Econ majors) 
  • Economics 350 - Monopoly, Competition & Public Policy (for Econ majors)
  • Political Science 341 - International Political Economy
  • Political Science 348 - Globalization
  • Political Science 375 - Business & Government

Core Course #3: (choose one)

  • Sociology 302 - Complex Organizations
  • Sociology 331 - Markets, Hierarchies & Democracies
  • Sociology 335 - Sociology of Rational Decision Making (pre-reqs apply)
