Finding an Internship
Students accepted to CFS programs work with our advisers to identify and obtain internships, through a real-world, competitive process. Soon after being accepted to the program, students meet with us to discuss their interests and our internship options. Then, we email resumes to internship organizations, along with information about the CFS program. The organizations decide which students they want to interview and then contact them as well as make offers to them directly. Students decide which organizations they want to interview with and choose the offer that looks best to them (they receive an average of 1-3 offers). Throughout the search process, students keep in regular touch with our advisers.
Once an internship is secured, both the student and the internship organization must sign the CFS Internship Agreement, which explains the CFS program—including the research component—and lays out the terms of the internship, which are established together by the internship organization and the student within CFS guidelines.
Some students already have an internship secured when they apply for the program or find their own internship through networking once they have been accepted. We encourage students to seek out their own opportunities and actually counsel them on how to network themselves to identify other options. Please note, however, that all internships are subject to approval by Chicago Field Studies.
