"When I visited universities during my senior year in high school, I heard two arguments from recruiters: large schools emphasized their extensive facilities; small schools touted their small class sizes and high level of faculty/student interaction.

CAS Scholars at Northwestern gave me the advantages of both worlds: I have access to excellent resources as well as intense interaction with faculty."

-John Hembling, '99

Majors: environmental sciences and international studies

Projects

Each college scholar is given a research stipend to be used toward the completion of an independent project. Here are some examples of past projects by scholars:

Abstract: Effect of Altered pHin on Properties of M2 Ion Channel of Influenze A Virus
 - from former scholar Jared Knopman, with Yajun Tang, Robert A Lamb, and Lawrence H Pinto.

Intersecting Identities: Reinventing Organization at a Polish Brewery
 - a complete final project by Andrew Asher
