The images above suggest the range of theatrical forms of interest to Drama Majors: from left to right, performance artist Tim Miller, ancient Greek theatre, the Broadway musical, historical staging of Shakespeare, and Indian classical dance (the latter courtesy of Natya Dance Theatre Chicago).

Welcome

The Drama Major in Weinberg College places the study of dramatic literature, theatre history, and performance theory at the center of a liberal arts education.

Since theatre, drama, and performance cannot be fully understood apart from the act of embodiment, the major asks students to balance coursework in history, literature, and theory with coursework in the applied arts of performance. Drawing from an array of courses in Weinberg, the School of Communication, and the School of Music, students design their own program in consultation with the program director.

Flexibility and variety distinguish the Drama Major from majors in adjacent fields such as English, Theatre, and Performance Studies. By individualizing their programs, students develop broad knowledge and skills as a foundation for their future careers.
