Requirements

Requirements for the Minor

A minor in EPC requires students to select seven courses from the list of approved courses.

1. Two of these courses must be selected from the following broader survey courses (but only one of the two can be drawn from the two ENVR_POL 390s listed here): 

 

ENVR_POL  390 US Environmental Politics (same as POL_SCI 329)
ENVR_POL  390 Politics & Nature in a Comparative Perspective (same as POL_SCI 367)
GEOG  211 World Biogeography
HIST  215 Western Hemisphere
PHIL  268 Ethics and the Environment
RELIGION  261 American Religion, Ecology and Culture
SOCIOL  212 Environment and Society

 

2. At least four of the seven required courses must be at the 300 leve, and two of the four 300-level courses must be in EPC (listed as ENVR_POL xxx)**.

3. Students must take one science course selected from the following list:

EARTH 106 The Ocean, The Atmosphere, and Our Climate

 111 Human Dimensions of Global Change

ENVR_SCI 202 The Health of the Biosphere
ENVR_SCI 203 Energy and the Environment

 

** The latter part applies to students entering Northwestern beginning September 2010.

Elective courses for EPC include courses in three broad areas: Culture (Humanities), Policy (Social Sciences), and Natural Sciences (See Courses)
