 |
ICEP is proud to present the quarterly Darwin Lecture Series of seminars by scholars with national and international reputations for their work in a field associated with evolution. These seminars are open to both Graduate and Undergraduate students. Undergraduates enrolled in MSEP shall be invited to a special “Meet the Speaker” event following the seminar.
The Darwin Lectures are also open to the general public.
Other lectures listed below that may be of interest to the MSEP student are sponsored by the Masters' Program in Plant Biology and Conservation (PBC).
For more information about our lectures please contact Dr. Teresa Horton or Susan Black

The Search for Extraterrestrial Life: Prospects and
Responsibilties
Speaker: Dr. Christopher F. Chyba,
Professor of Astrophysical Sciences and
Internationational Affairs, Director of Program on
Science and Global Security, Woodrow Wilson School,
Princeton University
Location: Pancoe-ENH Abbott Auditorium,
Pancoe Life Sciences Pavilion,

Human civilization is searching for extraterrestrial life in four ways: spacecraft searches from orbiters and landers on other bodies in our solar system; the examination of samples from these bodies in laboratories on Earth; the analysis of other planets’ atmospheres for clues of the presence of alien biospheres; and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) through radio and other searches for extraterrestrial technology. None of these techniques is yet well developed but each will become more important in the coming decades. This talk will try to describe what we already know, what we think we know, and what we don’t know, and discuss some of our responsibilities as the search continues.
