Structure and Curriculum of the Course

Course Requirements: students are required to complete eight courses, including 4 core courses and four electives. See course list. The four elective courses must be at the 300-level, and an elective course may not be double-counted towards the student’s major. At least one elective course must contain a significant field component or be a collections-based course offered at either the Field Museum of Natural History or the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Capstone Seminar: Students must take the capstone seminar in the spring quarter of their final year. Prior to taking the capstone seminar students must have completed the remainder of the core requirements, 3 of 4 electives, and either have participated in or be co-enrolled in a research project or field/collections based course. The objective of the capstone seminar is to provide students the opportunity to reflect on the courses they have taken as part of the minor and to integrate the information from the courses with their research and field oriented experiences.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities: Qualified students will be encouraged to participate in supervised undergraduate research with faculty associated with the Evolutionary Processes Program.
