Assistant Professor in Medieval or Byzantine Art

KAPLAN INSTITUTE FOR THE HUMANITIES

Assistant Professor in Middle Eastern Literature / Literary and Cultural Studies

Northwestern University and the Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities seeks to hire a scholar in modern and/or contemporary Middle Eastern literature / literary and cultural studies.  The successful candidate will work in one or more primary languages of the majority-Muslim countries of the Middle East and North Africa (i.e., Arabic, Persian/Farsi, Turkish). Applications from candidates conducting comparative scholarship—linguistically, regionally, and/or disciplinarily—are especially welcome. 


This newly-created position, at the rank of assistant professor, is part of Northwestern University's major and on-going expansion of Middle East and North African Studies. The new hire will be jointly appointed between an appropriate disciplinary home (a department or program) and the Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities
