Isaac Kalimi
Isaac Kalimi (Ph.D. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Visiting Professor in Religion and Jewish Studies
Professor Kalimi specializes in the history and historiography of ancient Israel and Near East, biblical literature, exegesis and theology, Second Temple and Rabbinic Judaism. Having taught at several universities in Israel, Western Europe, and the United States he is now a research associate with the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, The Oriental Institute, the University of Chicago.
Among his numerous published works are An Ancient Israelite Historian: Studies in the Chronicler, His Time, Place, and Writing (2005), Early Jewish Exegesis and Theological Controversy: Studies in Scriptures in the Shadow of Internal and External Controversies (2002), and Biblical Interpretation in Judaism and Christianity (co-editor; 2006). His The Reshaping of Ancient Israelite History in Chronicles (2005) won the R.B.Y. Scott Award of the Canadian Society of Biblical Studies for an outstanding book in the areas of Hebrew Bible and the Ancient Near East. Though Professor Kalimi regularly publishes and teaches in English, Hebrew, and German, his native language is Turkish.
