Professor Weil started teaching at Harvard and Brandeis and came to Northwestern University in 1966. By that time he had already been travelling and working in the USSR for six years and laid the foundation for his future work in USA-USSR/Russia relations.  In his long and fruitful career at Northwestern, he published numerous books and articles on Gorky, Soviet  literature, Russian poetry and music, and Russian cultural history.
