Admission Requirements
The department receives approximately 300 applications for graduate admissions each year. On average, 25 students are accepted, of whom about 12 choose Northwestern for their graduate studies.
The average Verbal GRE score of students admitted to the department of psychology is 675. The psychology subject test is not required, but is strongly recommended.
For admitted students, the average GPA from their Junior and Senior years in college is 3.50. Undergraduate psychology courses are not required, but we do recommend that those without a psychology background take some general psychology courses.
Note to International Applicants
The minimum TOEFL score for admission is 560 for the paper-based test and 220 for the computer-based test, 100 or higher on the internet based test. For admission without English language course requirements, minimum scores required are 575 and 230; and for financial aid consideration, the base scores are 600 and 250, respectively.
