Research Interests

My research interests center on understanding the influences, both
positive and negative, that fathers and father figures (i.e., men
other than the biological father who may be fulfilling the fathering
role) have on their children’s socioemotional development.  I have a
special interest in fathers living in poverty (e.g., fathers of
children in Head Start), and on non-residential and never-residential
fathers.  I am particularly focused on how fathers influence their
children’s adjustment and peer competence, and I have an ongoing
interest in examining other domains of children’s social development
with reference to father involvement.
