PhD Dissertation
When the student has successfully passed the second-year oral exam and the qualifying exam, he/she must request the formation of a committee to conduct the oral examination for admission to candidacy for the Ph.D. This oral examination normally covers the dissertation proposal but need not be limited to that. This examination is usually taken during the fourth year. All other requirements must be completed before this oral examination may be taken. The final oral examination covers the completed dissertation. This examination is normally held in the spring of the fifth year or during the internship year.
