First- and Second-Year Requirements

Research Projects

The qualification for the award of a Master's will be the successful completion of the first- and second-year projects.

  1. The first-year project is to be conducted under supervision and the student must make a presentation based on the project in the weekly program brownbag series by the end of the Fall quarter of the second year of graduate study.  Final approval of the project is entirely in the hands of the faculty sponsor.
  2. The second-year project is also to be conducted under supervision and it is to be completed and defended by the early fall of the third year of graduate study.  The second-year project will be more like a traditional Master's project, except more limited in scope.  The committee for this project must be composed of at least two members of the Clinical Program faculty (students are encouraged to have a third member from outside the clinical area).  There will be an oral defense of the proposal for the second-year project as well as for the completed project.
  3. The product of the second-year project will be a manuscript suitable for submission to a journal (i.e., 20-35 pages in APA format).  Students are not required to write a manuscript describing their first-year projects, however they will be encouraged to do so and submit the manuscript for publication if the results of the first-year project are deemed to be publishable.
  4. The research progress of each student will be evaluated at the end of every year in the program.
