General Information
If necessary new students are assigned a temporary adviser until they have chosen a first year research adviser. The temporary adviser has the responsibility of advising the student on programs of study and any other matters of policy with which the student may be concerned. The temporary adviser remains the student's adviser until a research adviser is secured (which is often in the first week or two but can take several months).
The first year of graduate study is designed to establish a solid basis for the remaining years of graduate study and for his/her career as a clinical scientist. The student's work will be evaluated carefully by the faculty at the end of the each year of study. No formal courses at the graduate level are given during the summer session. Summers are used for independent work, research, and clinical experience.
