Master Research
The qualification for the award of a Master's will be the successful defense of the first- and second-year projects.
A. The first-year project is to be conducted under supervision and is to be completed and defended by the end of the summer following the first year of graduate study. Final approval of the project is entirely in the hands of the faculty sponsor. The purpose of the defense is educational, so that the student can have the input of other faculty. The student shall select the faculty sponsor and two other faculty members to serve as the committee. The committee must have at least two members of the Personality Program faculty.
B. The second-year project is also to be conducted under supervision and completed and defended by the end of the spring quarter of the second year of graduate study. The second-year project will be like a traditional Master's project, except more limited in scope. The committee for this project must also have at least two members of the Personality Program faculty (students are encouraged to have a third member from outside the personality area). There will be an oral defense of the proposal for the second-year project as well as for the completed project. The second-year project must be defended before June 30th of the second year.
C. The product of each of these projects will be a manuscript suitable for submission to a journal (i.e., 20-35 pages in APA format).
D. The research progress of each student will be evaluated at the end of the second and third years.
