Dell models recommended by WeinbergIT can be accessed in the Dell store in iBuyNU by selecting the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences option under the NU Contract Pricing drop-down menu.

Faculty and staff in Weinberg may purchase any Dell computer meeting the minimum WeinbergIT hardware/warranty standards, but we recommend the Optiplex desktop and Latitude laptop because they are optimized for the business environment and replacement parts are available longer.

The Optiplex 760 bundle is designed to meet the desktop computing needs of most users in Weinberg.  The Optiplex 960 bundle is recommended for users with special computing needs requiring additional processing power and memory or a RAID configuration.

The Latitude 2100, the only exception to the minimum hardware standards, is a small, low-powered netbook model designed for portability and basic computing tasks such as web browsing and e-mail. It may not be adequate for more demanding software use. If you have any questions about whether this model will meet your computing needs, please contact your WeinbergIT representative.

*Please note: The 6 cell battery has been selected as the default option for the Latitude 2100 to provide the user with maximum portability.  According to Dell, the 6 cell battery will provide 8 hours of battery life; the smaller 3 cell battery will provide 3 hours and 51 minutes of battery life.

The larger battery adds .6 pounds and protrudes a bit from the bottom of the machine.  If the user would rather have a lighter weight and slimmer profile, the 3 cell battery can be selected through the Customize option before purchasing.
