Using Your Network Storage

All faculty and staff in Weinberg College have network file storage available for their personal and collaborative work. This file storage is backed up nightly. Faculty are provided with 20 GB of file space and staff have 5 GB of file space. Departments and research groups may request additional space for collaborative work.  Graduate students are provided with 1 GB of file space for research. Undergraduate students who are paid for work in WCAS may be given access to collaborative work space during the quarter(s) in which they are being paid.

Access your network storage

The best way to access your network storage from on campus is to have your computer joined to the WeinbergIT ActiveDirectory. By having your computer joined to our Active Directory all of your network storage will automatically be available when you log into your desktop computer. To get connected enter a WeinbergIT Service Request, and a WeinbergIT technical support consultant will contact you to set up access.

If your computer is a laptop or off campus, you can access your network storage by following these instructions:

Backup your important data

You should maintain your important files directly on your personal network storage space or periodically copy important files from your hard drive onto your personal network storage space. By doing this, you will avoid losing important files in case of a hardware failure to your computer hard drive.

Additional storage needs

Additional network file storage is available, for a fee, to individual faculty members. By using network storage you can access your data from anywhere on campus or from home through the Northwestern VPN. Collaboration with colleagues is much simpler as you can share the same files over the network from remote locations. WeinbergIT backs up all files nightly, and keeps three months of backups in a secure offsite location. By using our network file storage system you are protecting your data and allowing seamless collaboration with your fellow colleagues. This additional storage space is available for $5/GB per year.
