- English 106-1, 2: Engineering
Design and Communication (EDC)
A two-quarter, project-based course in creative
problem-solving. Design and communication are taught
as parallel processes, and all writing instruction
is integrated into design activities. Sections are
team-taught by writing faculty and engineering faculty. EDC is intended for students pursuing an engineering major.
- Writing 115-5 & 6: Modes of Writing
A team-taught course sponsored by the Center for
the Writing Arts; designed to help freshman explore
a lively intellectual theme while developing skills
to become stronger writers. Intended to be taken
for two quarters. Combines large-group lectures,
taught by faculty from various departments (e.g.
philosophy, linguistics) and small discussion sections,
taught by writing faculty. Recent themes have included
Time and Chance, the Bible and its Transformations,
Language and Social Policy.
