Welcome

The Writing Program aims to help all Northwestern students learn to write clearly, thoughtfully, and effectively. We believe that clear writing and thinking are central to success in every academic discipline. We also believe that writing is a complex activity worthy of study in itself.

To accomplish our goals, we offer introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses in expository writing. We also provide tutoring and consultation in the Writing Place, and we collaborate in many ways with colleagues in other departments and programs-such as the English Department, with its Writing Major, the Department of Linguistics, the Center for the Writing Arts, and the Medill School of Journalism-all in an effort to help Northwestern students become strong writers and thinkers.

Writing Program courses are taught by a core of experienced faculty who are well known for their willingness to work closely with undergraduates on their writing. WP courses are small so that instructors can meet regularly with students in individual conferences and comment extensively on student work. Many Writing Program faculty also serve as Weinberg freshman advisers.

To learn more about our program and faculty, and about writing requirements and resources at Northwestern, please browse through this web site-and come to visit us in person in our Crowe / Kresge offices.
