From the late 1800s, Chicagoans from all walks of life and with widely varying measures of familiarity with the classical sources have found elements of the ancient past useful for making meaningful contributions to their own struggles and ventures. Edith Hall’s annual visit took place on April 5th. She delighted us with a talk about working on her new edition (Greek text with translation & commentary) of Aeschylus’s Agamemnon and consulting on our long-range departmental plans.
Assistant Professor of Classics Jennifer Weintritt has been elected a fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies. She will spend at least part of the 2024/25 academic year on research leave in residence in Washington, D.C. Congrats!
